Penygarreg Reservoir

Pen-y-garreg has a 6,055 megalitre capacity

Work started on this dam in April 1895. Materials were delivered by means of the Elan Valley Railway constructed of over 30 miles of track, with a constantly changing layout.

The row of openings you can see near the top of the dam wall are 'windows' to a tunnel which is used to get to the valve tower in the middle. If you're lucky, you can walk inside the dam.
